When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Matthew 19:22

Thought

During this time of COVID-19, I think many of us have realized how little we need from day to day to survive. In so many ways, life has become much more simple. This young man went to Jesus to ask Him, "What good deed must I do to have eternal life?" Jesus' final reply left the young man sad. "Sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven." The young man found that he could not do this. His possessions meant too much to him. Jesus revealed that his heart was divided. He longed for many things; there was a competition going on inside of him. I hope this season of life has taught us what is most important. May our longing for Jesus grow deeper each day.

Pray

Dear Jesus, please help us to live simple lives. Help us to cling tightly to You, and hold everything else loosely. Would you have our whole heart. Would we long for nothing else more than You, Jesus. And as we learn what it means to follow You with all our hearts, would we experience great joy and satisfaction in You! In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
