July 15th, 2020

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!

And yet he is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words,
but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.

The Egyptians are man, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together.

Isaiah 31:1-3

Thought

What does one rely on when he or she faces difficulties? The prophet here reminds us that we are only human after all, but not God even if we are as strong as the Egyptians; Their horses are also flesh only but not Holy Spirit. Not to mention that God has the ultimate power, nobody can resist if He reaches out to one. At this moment today, do you and I rely on ourselves, money, power, position, or God who controls everything? As a disciple of Christ, if one firmly believes that God has the mighty power, then he or she should follow Him and rely on Him in total obedience. May God's wisdom lead us to His kingdom.

Prayer

Thank You God our Father, for allowing us to call to you upon your face. We pray that Father God will help us to focus on you, totally rely on you, and live a Christian life as a true disciple. When we are weak, we pray that God will help us to rely on Holy Spirit to lead us walk through each challenge, Amen!

'禍哉！那些下埃及求幫助的，他們仰賴馬匹，倚靠甚多的戰車，並倚靠強壯的騎兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華。其實，耶和華有智慧，他降災禍，並不撤回自己的話，卻要興起攻擊作惡之家，攻擊那幫助人作惡的。埃及人不過是人，並非上帝，他們的馬不過是血肉，並不是靈。耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的必絆跌，受幫助的也必跌倒，都一同滅亡。

思想

究竟人遇到困難時要靠著什麼？這裡先知提醒我們強如埃及都只不過是人，並非上帝；他們的馬都只不過是血肉，並不是靈。況且上帝是擁有終極權能的，祂一伸手沒有人能抵擋。今天的你和我在這時刻，倚靠的是自己、金錢、權力、職位，還是統管萬有的上帝？作為基督門徒，若認定上帝是萬權萬能的話，就要全然順服去跟隨祂、倚靠祂。讓上帝的智慧去帶領我們進入祂的國度。
