He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?"

Luke 12:54-56

Thought

When you live in Calgary, one of the most important things you do every morning is to check the weather forecast. We know that the weather can change multiple times a day, and very quickly from one moment to the next. So we check our weather app, and then we keep an eye out on the sky. We need to do both, so that we know how to react even before the weather changes. Here Jesus is saying the same to those around Him. We need to see the signs around us, and be able to interpret what they mean, what they are foreshadowing. It is foolish to be able to do that with the weather, but completely unable to do that with our spiritual live and reality. What are the signs that we see all around us, helping us understand what is happening, and how we should be prepared to respond? In order to be properly prepared, we must be Christ-centred and Spirit-empowered so that we are able to interpret the present time.

Prayer

Jesus, please give us spiritual eyes to see and ears to hear what is going on around us. There are plenty of signs all around us. Father, forgive us for our blindness and our lack of alertness. Please help us to see the signs and have the courage and wisdom to react and respond accordingly. Help us to be Christ-centred so that we do not miss the signs. And enable us to be Spirit-empowered to live according to Your plans and commands. In Jesus Name, Amen.

思想

當你生活在卡加里，每個早上其中一樣最重要做的事便是看看天氣預報。我們知道天氣可在一天內轉變多次，而且非常急速地在一刻內驟變。所以我們會看天氣預報應用程式，然後便留意著天空。我們需要兩者都做，才會懂得怎樣在天氣變化前作出反應。主耶穌在這裏也是對他身邊的人說出同樣道理。我們需要看見身邊的徵兆，及有能力去解釋它們的意思及預示。若我們有能力對天氣那樣做，卻完全沒有能力對我們的靈命生活及現實同樣地做，那便是愚昧的。我們在周圍看到什麼徵兆去幫助我們明白正在發生的事情，及我們應該怎樣去預備以回應？為了適當地準備，我們必須以基督為中心及聖靈為能力以令我們有能力去解釋目前。
