And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 13:52

Thought

As I consider how we might be assured of the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives, I came across this passage. Paul and Barnabas were facing persecution in Jerusalem as they were preaching in the synagogue. Many Gentiles were being saved through the preaching of the Word, yet the Jewish leaders spread rumors and spoke against the disciples. A normal, expected reaction would be fear and discouragement. But the Bible tells us that the disciples were "filled with joy"! How could this be? God's Word tells us that it is because of the Holy Spirit was at work in their hearts, helping them to experience a joy that transcended their circumstances. May we also experience this kind of joy because we are filled with the Spirit!

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank you for filling us with the Holy Spirit, the One who guarantees our salvation, and fill us with joy that is greater than our circumstances. May we always experience this kind of joy that transcends our circumstances, a joy that gives us hope in times of trouble, and peace in times of fear and uncertainty. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

我在想我們如何肯定聖靈的同在，這時，就讀到這段經文。保羅和巴拿巴在會堂傳講神的道，卻受到耶路撒冷的猶太人逼迫。許多外邦人聽到神的道後信主得救，然而猶太人的領袖散播謠言，毁謗主的門徒。門徒正常和預期的反應當是恐懼和沮喪。但聖經卻告訴我們，門徒「滿心喜樂」！怎可能會是這樣呢？神的話告訴我們，這是因為聖靈在他們心中動工，讓他們經歷喜樂，能在當時的處境中誇勝。願我們也因被聖靈充滿而經歷這種喜樂！
